Tata Starbucks Limited, the 50-50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Global Beverages Limited, was recognised as one of the top ten workplaces in retail in India recently, according to the Great Place To Work Institute. The honour reaffirmed the coffee chain’s commitment to being an employer of choice.

The Great Place To Work Institute distinguishes workplaces that are the shining beacons of a high-trust, high-performance culture where employees trust the people they work for, have pride in the job they do and enjoy the company of the people they work with.

“Our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit - one person, one cup and one neighbourhood at a time. Our partners (employees) are at the core of our success in India. We live our mission every day by inspiring and nurturing our partners, by connecting with respect, and by providing meaningful benefits and experiences for them as we grow,” said Sumitro Ghosh, chief executive officer, Tata Starbucks Private Limited.

Tata Starbucks continues to build on its commitment to be a positive force in contributing to the future success of its partners in India. The company expects to double the number of partners over the next five years, and underscoring its commitment to be a progressive workplace, it aims to boost the proportion of women in its workforce to 40 per cent by 2022, up from 25 per cent today.

These build on the already-existing initiatives to fulfill Tata Starbucks’ aspiration to be the employer of choice, with industry-leading benefits such as the five-day work schedule, a first-of-its-kind programme introduced in 2016.

The Great Place To Work certification is one of the most prestigious recognitions. In its sixth edition, along with the top 10 list of best workplaces in retail, the Great Place To Work Institute has also released a research report that reflects upon the areas where the best workplaces are outperforming the rest by identifying, creating and sustaining great workplaces through the development of high-trust cultures.
