The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has announced a comprehensive overhaul of food safety and hygiene protocols for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season.
As per reports, operating under the renewed "Vision Sabarimala" project, the board aims to enforce stringent quality controls across all base camps and transit points, including Pampa and the hilltop Sannidhanam.
Following the last year directives from the Kerala High Court and food safety authorities, the TDB is enforcing strict compliance checklists for all eateries.
The reports add that the private hotel operators must now ensure that all kitchen staff possess mandatory health cards and that premises maintain high-standard waste management systems and to mitigate sanitation concerns caused by unverified local vendors, the board is partnering with state-backed agencies, including Kudumbashree, the Indian Coffee House, and the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, to manage major food courts.
Additionally, the TDB is prioritising the quality of the sacred Appam and Aravana prasadams.
To ensure an extended shelf life and prevent contamination or spoilage during transport, a rigorous moisture limit has been implemented for production.
Weekly inspections by the Devaswom vigilance wing and state food safety officials will also be conducted to ensure continuous compliance throughout the heavy pilgrimage rush.
