UK Food & Drink highlighted its expanding footprint in India through a curated culinary showcase held in Mumbai, bringing together leading chefs, retailers, buyers and media to explore the increasing influence of British ingredients on India’s evolving food landscape. The invitation-only event was hosted by the UK Government’s GREAT Food & Drink Campaign.
The showcase reflected rising demand in India for high-quality, internationally trusted food and drink products. Changing consumer preferences, rapid growth in premium retail, and increasing expectations from the hospitality and foodservice sectors are driving interest in ingredients that offer consistency, transparency and strong provenance. India has emerged as one of the world’s most dynamic food and beverage markets, presenting significant opportunities for UK producers.
Demonstrating how British ingredients can integrate seamlessly into Indian cuisine, the culinary experience was led by Michelin-starred chef Vineet Bhatia MBE, a prominent ambassador for UK produce. He curated a menu that showcased the versatility of UK food across contemporary Indian dishes. Guests were taken on a culinary journey through the four nations of the UK, featuring English cheeses, Scottish salmon, Northern Irish spirits, Welsh sea salt and other signature ingredients.
Commenting on the experience, Chef Vineet Bhatia said UK ingredients offer chefs confidence due to their consistent quality and transparent sourcing, enabling greater focus on flavour and creativity without compromising authenticity. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor also praised the menu, noting that while the dishes remained distinctly Indian, the ingredients added refinement, balance and visual clarity.
Addressing attendees, Harjinder Kang, Trade Commissioner to South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner to Western India, highlighted the UK’s leadership in food innovation and quality. He noted that following the signing of the India–UK Free Trade Agreement, UK food and drink exports to India reportedly grew by over 11% in the first half of 2025.
UK food and drink products are now widely available across Indian modern retail and gourmet platforms such as Reliance Retail, Nature’s Basket, Food Square and Food Stories. The GREAT Food & Drink Campaign will continue to strengthen engagement through chef collaborations, retail activations and trade initiatives to support long-term partnerships and sustained growth in India.
