Uttar Pradesh is strategically positioning itself as a leading food processing hub in India, according to Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.  Highlighting a proactive policy framework and strong government backing, Maurya underscored the state’s commitment to transforming its agriculture-driven economy into a value-added industrial ecosystem that benefits farmers, entrepreneurs and communities alike.

At the expo launch, Maurya released an updated industrial directory and handed out certificates and financial support to several small and medium entrepreneurs, especially those backed by the PMFME (Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro-Food Processing Enterprises) scheme. He urged youth and business owners to seize the growing opportunities in food processing, noting that UP’s investor-friendly climate, robust law and order, and expansive market potential make it fertile ground for innovation and enterprise.

A core part of the state’s strategy is raising farmers’ incomes through technological upgrades, branding, market expansion and improved production practices. The government is also placing emphasis on promoting women entrepreneurs, offering benefits such as up to 90% subsidy on solar energy integration for processing units  a clear indication of its focus on sustainability and inclusive growth. Value addition through self-help groups (SHGs) and enhanced quality standards under the Swachh Bharat-Swasth Bharat initiative were highlighted as key drivers of long-term success in the sector.

Industry experts and officials at the seminar discussed policy incentives, innovation pathways and stronger linkages between farmers, processors and consumers — a unified approach to building a resilient food value chain across the state.

The expo itself serves as a platform for catalysing investment, bringing together stakeholders from across the food ecosystem to explore partnerships, technology solutions and market opportunities. With supportive state policies and growing private sector interest, Uttar Pradesh is fast emerging as a destination for food processing investment and growth.
