Upgraded Agri Welfare Portal brings govt schemes to farmers smartphones
Thursday, 22 October, 2026, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Our Bureau, Mumbai
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched the upgraded Agri Welfare Portal to provide farmers across India with easier access to government schemes, financial assistance and reliable agricultural information through their mobile phones. The initiative supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision and aims to simplify access to agricultural services, reduce procedural hurdles and minimise the role of intermediaries.

The portal will serve as a single-window platform for information on government schemes, subsidies, regulations and digital services, integrating major initiatives such as PM-KISAN, AgriStack and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Farmers will be able to check their eligibility and submit applications online, while financial assistance will be facilitated through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), promoting transparency and simplifying access to benefits.

Speaking at the launch, Chouhan emphasised that technology must reach farms and rural communities to improve farmers’ lives. He said the portal would eliminate the need to visit multiple government offices or navigate different websites to access information and services. He also called for the platform to remain accurate and regularly updated, stressing that reliable information and simple processes were essential, particularly for small and marginal farmers and those with limited formal education.

Designed to support rural connectivity, the portal features a lightweight, mobile-friendly interface intended to function on basic smartphones and in areas with weak internet connectivity. It will provide information on weather conditions, scientific farming practices, seed and fertiliser availability, and prevailing market prices for agricultural produce. The platform also incorporates accessibility features, including screen-reader support and simplified navigation, to improve access for persons with disabilities.

The portal will bring together Farmer Producer Organisations, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, agricultural scientists, researchers and startups on a common digital platform. To encourage wider adoption, the Agriculture Ministry will conduct a special training campaign through Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country, helping farmers use the portal and other digital agricultural tools.

Developed in accordance with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Digital Brand Identity Manual 3.0 and Guidelines for Indian Government Websites 3.0, the upgraded platform aims to provide a secure, accessible and user-friendly digital experience. Senior officials from the Agriculture Ministry, including Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Secretary Atish Chandra, Additional Secretary Pramod Meherda, and representatives of the Digital Agriculture Division and the National Informatics Centre, attended the launch.
