World Food India - Alco-bev, plant-based & post-harvest in sharp focus

India’s biggest congregation of policy makers & regulators, global investors, business leaders and key executives, the World Food India, a mega food event, is all set to unveil its third edition from September 19 to 22, 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The event organised by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India, recognises the potential of the food processing sector in transforming India as the food basket of the world, and thus have adopted measures to channelise investments in food processing subsegments. This includes backward linkages, food processing equipment, processing related R&D, cold chain storage solutions, start-ups, logistic & retail chains, encompassing the entire food processing value chain. This year, in addition to the existing focus sectors, the edition will place special emphasis on emerging areas.
With the objective of introducing the world to rich Indian food culture as well as promoting investments in the diverse food processing sector of the country, the MoFPI launched the first edition of World Food India in 2017. In view of celebrating 2023 as the International Year of Millets and to bring the global food processing industry together, the MoFPI organised the second edition of World Food India in 2023 having bearing on those areas.
New Feature The show, interestingly, promises to be even bigger and more impactful than its previous editions, with several exciting new elements:
Expanded Exhibition Space: This year's event will feature an expanded exhibition area of over 60,000+ sqm, offering more opportunities for exhibitors and visitors to explore the latest innovations and trends in the global food processing industry.
Extended Event Duration: The event has been extended to a 4-day format, allowing for more comprehensive networking, in-depth discussions, and a richer experience for all participants.
New Focus Areas: In addition to the existing focus sectors, this edition will place special emphasis on emerging areas such as alco-bev, plant-based proteins, post-harvest machinery, and pet food, reflecting the latest trends in the industry.
Great Indian Food Street: Curated by celebrity chefs, this new feature will showcase the diversity of Indian cuisine with a global twist, offering a unique culinary experience.
Enhanced International Participation: With confirmed country pavilions from a wide range of countries and regions including Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, France, Turkey, Armenia, Vietnam and the Middle East, this year’s event will have a truly global representation.
These new features, combined with the event’s existing strengths, make the exhibition a must-attend event for anyone involved in the global food ecosystem. Key Features Some of the highlights of World Food India 2024 include:
Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (RBSM): Hosting 1,000 international delegates from across the globe, providing unparalleled networking and business opportunities.
Global Regulators Meet: Organised by FSSAI, this event will see participation from 600 international regulators, focusing on harmonising global food safety standards.
Ministerial Delegations: High-level ministerial delegations from 28 countries have been invited to participate, underscoring the global importance of this event.
Exhibition Participation: Over 1,500 exhibitors, including both domestic and international participants, will showcase their innovations, with confirmed country and regional pavilions from Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, France, Turkey, Armenia, Vietnam, the Middle East and more.
Global Indian Food Street: Curated by renowned celebrity chefs, this segment will highlight the rich diversity and innovation in Indian cuisine.
Global CEO’s Roundtable and Thematic Sessions: These sessions will bring together industry leaders to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the global food processing sector.
State Participation: More than 25 Indian states will actively participate, showcasing regional specialties and advancements in the food processing industry.
Focus Sectors: This edition will give special importance to alco-bev, plant-based proteins, post-harvest machinery, pet food, and other emerging sectors.
Start-up Grand Challenge: A platform for innovative start-ups to showcase their solutions and compete for recognition and support from industry leaders.
Visitor & Exhibitor Siddharth Dutta, consultant, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said, “Last year, World Food India 2023 attracted an impressive turnout with over 75,000 visitors from across the globe. This year, we are anticipating an even larger attendance, with expectations of more than 1,00,000 visitors. The growing interest reflects the event's increasing significance in the global food processing industry and its role as a premier platform for networking, business opportunities, and industry insights. Last year, World Food India 2023 featured participation from over 1,200 exhibitors, showcasing a diverse range of innovations and products from the global food processing industry. This year, we are expecting even greater participation, with over 1,500 exhibitors set to take part. The increase in exhibitor numbers reflects the growing importance of the event as a global hub for food processing and the expanding opportunities it provides for businesses to connect, collaborate, and showcase their latest advancements.”
Pavilions When asked about the pavilion, Dutta said, “Yes, World Food India 2024 will feature a diverse range of pavilions representing both domestic and international participants. These pavilions will highlight various sectors and showcase the latest innovations and trends in the global food processing industry. In the international pavilions, the event will have country pavilions from nations such as Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, France, Turkey, Armenia, Vietnam, and several countries from the Middle East, offering a global perspective on food processing and related sectors. In the sectoral focus special importance will be given to emerging sectors such as food processing, HoReCa, alco-bev, plant-based proteins, post-harvest machinery, packaging, snacks, beverages, frozen foods, dry fruits and pet food, reflecting the evolving dynamics of the food industry. In the state participation: Over 25 Indian states will participate in the exhibition, each showcasing their unique contributions to the food processing industry and regional specialties.”
Workshop, Seminars, Conferences The show will feature an extensive lineup of workshops, seminars, and conferences designed to provide valuable insights into the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the global food processing industry. These sessions will bring together experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss and explore a wide range of topics critical to the future of the food sector.
1. Global CEO’s Roundtable: A high-profile gathering of CEOs from leading global food companies. Discussions will focus on emerging trends, challenges in the food processing sector, and strategies for global expansion. Topics will include sustainability, innovation, supply chain resilience, and the future of food technology.
2. Thematic Sessions: These sessions will cover key topics such as The rise of plant-based proteins and their impact on the global food market; Innovations in alco-bev and the growing demand for alternative beverages; Advances in post-harvest machinery and technologies that enhance food quality and reduce waste and The expanding market for pet food and emerging trends in this sector.
3. Global Regulators Meet (Organised by FSSAI): A significant event where 600 international regulators will convene to discuss food safety standards and regulatory harmonisation. 5. Specialised Workshops: Focused on skill development and knowledge sharing, these workshops will cover areas such as Advanced food processing techniques; Sustainable packaging solutions; and Digital transformation in the food industry, including the use of AI and IoT.
6. Conferences on Regional and Global Trends: Dutta said, “These conferences will delve into market trends across different regions, exploring how global dynamics are influencing local food markets. As a co-located event, FSSAI Global Food Regulators Summit 2024 will be held on September 20 and 21, 2024.
