Zomato launches ‘Healthy High-Five Challenge’ to promote smarter eating choices

Zomato has introduced the Healthy High-Five Challenge, a new gamified initiative aimed at encouraging healthier food choices during what is often referred to as the “February Slump,” a period when New Year health resolutions typically begin to fade. The challenge is now live on the Zomato app under its Healthy Mode.

Designed to bridge the gap between good intentions and sustained habits, the Healthy High-Five Challenge rewards customers for consistently ordering nutritionally balanced meals. To participate, users must order dishes that meet defined nutritional benchmarks, including a minimum of 20 grams of protein and a high Healthy Score. Zomato’s Healthy Score evaluates meals based on protein content, complex carbohydrates, fibre and essential micronutrients, moving beyond calorie-only assessments.

Each qualifying order, once delivered, earns users a ‘High-Five’. Accumulating four High-Fives unlocks a free dish from a curated menu of high-nutrition options available exclusively through Healthy Mode. The initiative is designed around a habit-forming loop, using incentives to encourage repeat healthy choices rather than one-time actions.

Zomato said consumer data consistently indicates a sharp decline in health-conscious ordering behaviour in February, despite continued intent to eat better. By incorporating gamification and rewards, the platform aims to keep users engaged and motivated beyond the initial surge of New Year resolutions.

Healthy Mode, which was launched late last year, offers nutritional tags and simplified Healthy Scores to help users make more informed food decisions. The new challenge builds on this foundation by adding an engagement-led layer that combines ease of use with tangible benefits.

The Healthy High-Five Challenge will run throughout February and is available across seven major cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai. Users can access the challenge directly through Healthy Mode on the Zomato app.

With this initiative, Zomato continues to expand its focus on health-led features, aiming to support long-term behaviour change while making nutritious food choices more accessible and rewarding for its customers.
