fiogf49gjkf0d Tate and Lyle, one of the world's leading providers of specialty food ingredients and solutions, has acquired Biovelop, which operates out of a production facility in Kimstad, Sweden, and manufactures oat beta glucan under the brand name PromOat.
Beta glucan is a soluble fibre which has a number of health claims, including those which have the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) nod, for lowering cholesterol and reducing post-prandial glycaemic response.
Olivier Rigaud, president, specialty food ingredients, Tate and Lyle, said, “We are delighted to welcome the Biovelop business and its employees to Tate and Lyle.”
“The addition of Biovelop's soluble oat beta glucan, supported by strong scientific health claims, represents an excellent addition to Tate and Lyle's existing fibres and health and wellness portfolios,” he said.
Biovelop's product range includes other oat-based ingredients, such as PrOATein (oat protein), oat dextrin and insoluble oat fibre. These are manufactured from non-genetically-modified oats, sourced from within Sweden using a chemical-free process.
Biovelop, which was founded in 2005, is an early-stage business. It made its first sale of a commercial product in 2010.
