Pristine Organics to launch organic diabetes biscuits made of millet

Pristine Organics Pvt Ltd has been in the organic baby food segment in the country. The company claims that it is the first company in the country to be engaged in the manufacture of certified organic baby foods since 2004. Efforts are on to launch organic diabetes biscuits made of millet in the next four months for which research is complete.

The organic baby foods are sold under the brand name 'First Bites.' These include milk cereal and multigrain products varieties. The baby food contains no preservatives or additives and is known to increase the immunity of young children.

It is also into development of functional foods and micronutrient solutions and nutraceuticals which are manufactured at its facility at Sahakaranagar near Bangalore, which is a unit having ISO 2200 certification and also CU certification (Control Union) from Netherlands.

R&D is our main strength and we are working out new concepts in nutritional formulations addressing lifestyle related diseases, stated Raghu.

The company produces two tonnes of baby food per month with the ingredients like wheat is procured from Uttaranchal and apple powder from France.

Speaking to F&B News, K C Raghu, managing director of Pristine Organics Pvt Ltd, said that micronutrient solutions were not just confined to the fortification of vitamins and minerals in foods but it also catered to the pharma sector. It also offers customised solutions for various food and pharma products.

The company is of the view that infants are the most vulnerable to toxic agricultural chemical residues and this is where organic baby foods are safe for consumption.

The organic food market is $40 billion worth and is growing at 20 per cent annually. The nutraceuticals market is worth Rs 1, 200 crore in the country and is growing at 20-25 per cent.

The product is marketed at medical shops, supermarkets like Nilgiris, M K Ahmed and other big retail chains.

The product is available in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kerala, Hyderabad and Vizag.

Micronutrient supplements are supplied for big companies like Nestle, British Biological, Ruchi, Adani, Bunge,Aristo to name a few. It is also working with Glaxo SmithKline.



In addition, the company is also engaged in contract manufacturing for leading companies.

The micronutrient market size is Rs1, 000 crore. The company also offers healthy nutrition solutions customised to suit households, catering outlets, and food service industry and nutrition intervention programmes.

Pristine has been partnering with several non-government organisations (NGOs) to reach safe organic nutrition to lakhs of malnourished children and 10,000 HIV patients with Poushtik, at a cost of less than Rs 2.50 per person per day. They are also working with NGOs like Myrada, Oxfoam and Deccan Gold.

According to Raghu, the company has exported its products to the UAE and some quantity to the US, particularly baby foods. Right now they are looking to export to South Africa and Bangladesh.
