FSSAI gets a new CEO, 7 ex-officio members

The Centre has appointed Virendra Narayan Gaur, IAS (NL, 1978), former Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in terms of Section 9 (1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Gaur will take the place of G Balachandran.
Also, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) appointed seven government officials, who are presently working in the different ministries as joint secretaries, as members (ex-officio) in the FSSAI. An Office Memorandum has already been published by the FSSAI last week regarding these appointments.
According to the Office Memorandum, FSSAI has appointed following government officials as members (ex-officio) in the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India:
Upma Choudhary, joint secretary, Union Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation.
Dinesh Sharma, joint secretary, Union Ministry of Commerce, Department of Commerce.
Sanjay Singh, joint secretary, Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Goutam Sanyal, joint secretary, Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
Debasish Panda, joint secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Health and Family Welfare.
V K Bhasin, additional secretary, Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Legislative.
K S Ludu, additional development commissioner, Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
