Akshaya Patra Foundation, world's largest school-meal programme in Bangalore, has received two state-of-the-art meal delivery vehicles from the State Bank of India. The country's largest bank donated the same to the Foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The custom-designed vehicles will be used to distribute mid-day meals to children in government schools across Bangalore. Akshaya Patra is currently feeding more than one million school children every day in 18 locations across eight states in the country. The grant cheque was presented to Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman, Akshaya Patra Foundation, by R Sridharan, MD-Region II, State Bank of India, and Ms Arundhati Bhattacharya, CGM, and R Karthikeyan, GM, State Bank of India.
According to Sridharan, Managing Director, State Bank of India, "Akshaya Patra Foundation has supported millions of children across India with timely nutritious food which is crucial for their growth and academic development. We decided to support the noble cause. Corporates are the key to the success of Akshaya Patra programme which
grew from feeding 1500 children a day to more than a million children per day. We thank State Bank of India for its gesture and support. When the country's leading companies come forward to support the cause, it fosters the culture of giving and service, stated
Chanchalapathi Dasa.
Akshaya Patra Foundation is the world's largest NGO-run mid-day meal programme, feeding over one million children each day in about 7,700 schools through 18 locations in eight states in India. Last year, the Foundation bagged the Microsoft Education Award.
