ITC Ltd might soon start work on its proposed integrated foods factory in Bengal as the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) is to hand over about 18 acres of land to the company at Ulberia in Howrah on September 25.
“WBIDC will hand over about 18 acres of land to ITC by September 25,” Subrata Gupta, managing director, WBIDC, said while talking to newspersons on the sidelines of a seminar on asset reconstruction by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) in Kolkata.
However, ITC’s chairman Y C Deweshwar had earlier indicated that the company would require a minimum of 40 acres for the purpose. “We want to invest in an integrated food factory. We are in the process of getting some land from WEIDC, once we get it we will go ahead and set up the factory,” he had said.
“We were looking for a minimum of 40 acres of land but have managed to get only about 18 acres so far,” Deveshwar said while talking to newspersons after the company’s AGM recently.
