Global food major Nestle has identified Karnataka to set up a state-of-the-art culinary production plant at Nanjangud off Mysore. The new facility is expected to offer around 630 jobs and scale up its presence in the state and India. Currently, the company has an advanced coffee factory at Nanjangud that processes coffee beans for Nescafe.
For the inauguration, Paul Bulcke, chief executive officer, Nestlé S A, and Frits van Dijk, director, Nestlé S.A Asia, Oceania, Africa and Middle-East Zone, and Antonio Helio Waszyk, chairman and managing director, Nestlé India, were present along with Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
The investment was announced during the Global Investors Meet held in June 2010 where Nestle had inked a pact with the Karnataka government to slate its investment initiatives.
The products produced at the plant would cover the entire gamut of convenience foods like ketchups, pasta and instant noodles. It would also manufacture seasonings and mixed condiments.
"We are looking to expand the opportunities here continuously developing the market. This plant specialises in the manufacture of culinary products and this investment reaffirms our confidence in our brands and people. The commercial production efforts were signalled soon after the plant was inaugurated. The construction of the facility was completed within eight months and 20 days from the foundation-laying ceremony," Bulcke said.
